Library Then and Now...
The
JRU library used to occupy the ground floor of Building A,
also known as the Administration Building. It was
manned previously by non-professional librarian during its
early days. It was in 1949, Ms. Leticia Gorgod the
first librarian, was hired. She was later on
succeeded by Ms. Loreto Mallari in 1959, now known as Mrs.
Seriņa. The Dewey Decimal System of Classification
was adapted in the classification of books. Its
collection were mainly literature books, bound journals
that were accessioned and history books.
In
1978, the Library was transferred to the newest building
now known as Building H. It is fully air-conditioned
and contains rich collections of books and periodicals,
listing more than 90,000 volumes with hundreds of new
books and non-books added regularly and 450 titles of
local and foreign periodicals. Five physically
separate branches composed the system namely: the Main
Library, Law and Graduate Library, High School Library,
Elementary School Library and the Multimedia Sections
which house the Audio Visual Room and Internet
area. It is managed by a qualified and competent
University Librarian and is supported by licensed
librarians and IT staff. The library services are
computerized to provide easy access to its collection.
Being
the heart and soul of an institution, the library is committed to meeting
the demands of its clienteles by giving them the needed information and
materials. The library is continuously strengthening its collection by
using the PAARL, PACUCOA and CHED standards.
Meeting
the needs of more students, faculty and staff is one of the aspirations of
the library and is a reason for its continued expansion. The Library
now occupies the first and second floors of Building H.
